Want to know more about She Shed Gems?
Here’s all you need to know.
Welcome to the gem-filled world of She Shed Gems – a one-woman jewellery business created, designed and run by Emma.
Since 2013, Emma has been making and selling handmade and hand-finished jewellery, combining a mixture of techniques and, of course, a love of genuine gemstones.
Every piece is designed and made by Emma, with the aim of creating pieces of jewellery that feels a little bit different and as comfortable to wear and kinder to skin as possible.
She Shed Gems can be found at a variety of craft fairs in the Lancaster, Morecambe and the surrounding areas as well as online.
You can follow her journey on Facebook and Instagram with links at the bottom of the page.
From Bedroom Floor to She Shed
She Shed Gems has had quite a journey when it comes to finding a home.
It originally began on the bedroom floor. It wasn’t exactly ideal. The room was small, there wasn’t a proper desk and most of the jewellery supplies had a habit of spreading out rather quickly!
Next step: the kitchen table.
A familiar starting point for many crafters. It worked, but there was an obvious problem: when the family wanted to eat, unfinished jewellery had to be moved out of the way.
Home number three. The bay window.
Given to Emma from her brother, a desk was positioned into the bay window of the living room, which gave plenty of natural light. Finally, somewhere to leave unfinished projects without having to put everything away.
However, there was a problem brewing… According to her mum, Emma’s work was ‘spreading out’. It was becoming difficult to pretend that all her materials and equipment could be contained to one small area of the house.
Home four. 2020 Lockdown.
In May of that year, Emma bought a shed and it quickly became a place to design, create, experiment and make a mess without taking over the rest of the house.
Home number five. House one.
Emma became a homeowner for the first time in 2023. Another move for SSG, however this time it will be indoors. With two bedrooms, one became a dedicated craft room (over time it also became an office space and reading nook). A room that can be filled with jewellery making possibilities.
Where Now?
The goal: to create high-end, affordable jewellery featuring genuine gemstones, alongside other gem-based creations.
The journey might have changed direction a few times over the years, but the love of jewellery making and genuine gemstones hasn’t gone anywhere.
My Creative Purpose
I have always enjoyed making things and I always will.
When it comes to jewellery making, I love working with genuine gemstones in all their different forms: chip beads, smooth rounds, unusual and fancy shapes as well as the classic gemstone cuts. There is something satisfying about taking a collection of beautiful stones and imagining what they could become.
I aim to create jewellery that feels different. Wherever possible, I want to make unique and one-off pieces that someone will discover, fall in love with and treasure.
And that’s the best bit: seeing someone’s reaction when they pick up one of my creations, marvel at the gemstones and the unique design and realise that it’s something a little bit special.
That’s what makes all the hours of designing, making, tweaking and on the odd occasion, staring again, worthwhile.
